Assateague Island welcomes new Wild Pony

Assateague Island National Seashore officials have announced a bay pinto pony was born on the Island.

Officials say "This wee one was born in the backcountry sometime at the beginning of May."

The arrival of this horse brings the Maryland herd total to 93 animals.

Seashore officials said on their Facebook Page that the herd can typically be found south of South Beach in the Over Sand Vehicle (OSV) area.

This will make it hard for visitors to the island to catch a glimpse of the pony.
