The fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday on the top floor of a three-story building.Firefighters used ladders to remove five people from their top-floor balconies. They couldn't use the stairs to escape because of smoke and heat.
Fire officials say the child who was rescued was about 1 year old. The child was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation and was in good condition Saturday night. No one else was injured.The fire was extinguished in about 15 minutes. The cause is under investigation.
