Police: Man, woman found dead in Rockville home

Montgomery County police are continuing to investigate the murders of a married couple at their Rockville home.

Authorities say 65-year-old Richard Vilardo and his wife, 67-year-old Julianne Vilardo, were found dead Sunday just outside the rear of their home. The medical examiner's office has ruled their deaths as homicides after both victims died from "sharp force injuries."

Police say the Vilardos were found dead shortly before 12:30 p.m. by a relative who went to check on them after they did not meet on Mother's Day as planned. Police say the couple was known to be alive as recently as Saturday evening.

On Monday afternoon, Montgomery County investigators said in a statement that they have determined that entry into the home was made through a window, but that no glass was broken. They said the window's latch may not have been engaged.

Investigators also said the Medical Examiner's findings are still pending, but will be released when they are finalized.

According to an online biography, Dick Vilardo was a founding owner of Pinnacle Hotel Management, a Florida company that manages Marriott and Hilton hotels.

Pinnacle Hotel Management released a statement saying, "We are heartbroken. Dick was one of the greatest gentlemen we have ever known. Dick and Jody were the perfect couple. They will be sorely missed."

"We are heartbroken over this senseless tragedy. Dick and Jody Vilardo were a warm and loving couple. We know of no one who would wish them harm. The family asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time," said a family statement released to FOX 5.
