Steiner, a public speaker and author, noticed last week that a handicapped bathroom stall had been converted into a nursing lounge at Reagan National Airport."Seriously? This is where Reagan National Airport admin expect moms to feed their babies? Not good enough." she posted to her friends on Facebook.
Steiner quickly found support from other parents who were also outraged.
"Still near a toilet? I'd have hoped this had changed in the years since I nursed my (now) high schoolers. This is so disgusting, and yet I did nurse them in such - unappetizing - surroundings," said one person. Someone else wrote, "Find a chair. Sit in it. Feed your baby. Repeat anywhere you want. Ignore the looks, comments, etc."
One person posted a picture of a nursing station and children's play area at an airport in Tokyo, which looked like a major upgrade compared to Steiner's photo.
The Huffington Post reports that a DCA spokesperson said the airport is working to find better ways to accommodate nursing moms.
