Alexandria leaders vote to ban city from flying Confederate flag

- Leaders in Alexandria have voted to ban the Confederate flag from being flown by the city on city property. The Alexandria City Council voted unanimously on the ban Tuesday.

The City Council also plans to study whether to rename city streets that are named after southern military leaders.

The move does not prohibit people from waving Confederate flags, however, it does put an end to the era of city employees raising the Confederate flag on General Robert E. Lee's birthday and Confederate Memorial Day.
