Oliver Stone's 'Snowden' filming at locations around DC

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Oliver Stone's film project about the famous National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden is shooting this week in Washington.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley star in "Snowden." Film crews have been spotted near the White House and in the Tryst coffee shop in Adams Morgan that Snowden frequented.

Stone is adapting the book "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man" by Guardian journalist Luke Harding for the screen. Stone has called the Snowden case "one of the great stories of our time."

The film is set for release on Christmas Day.

This is one of two high-profile projects in the works about Snowden. Sony Pictures purchased the big-screen rights to Glenn Greenwald's "No Place to Hide: Edward Snowden, the NSA and the U.S. Surveillance State."
