DC police investigate after officers shoot, wounds suspect

WASHINGTON (AP) -- District of Columbia police are investigating after officers shot and wounded a man suspected in a robbery attempt.

Police say a man who was armed with a handgun was shot by officers Friday night on Clay Street in northeast Washington. The police department announced the shooting Saturday evening.

Police say officers were called for an armed robbery on Eastern Avenue and located a suspect vehicle a few blocks away. Police say two suspects fled on foot. Officers chased the suspects, and one suspect was shot by officers.

The injured suspect was identified as 23-year-old Troye Roberson of Washington. He was taken to a hospital for treatment. Roberson is charged with assault on a police officer, carrying a pistol, attempted robbery and other charges.

A second juvenile suspect was also arrested.
