Debate rages over use of pool at National War Memorial

- (AP) -- The Rainbow Pool at the National War Memorial may look inviting on a hot day, but those who choose to wade in the water are breaking National Park Service Rules.

And some visitors say choosing to go for a dip in the pool is disrespectful to those being remembered there.

Jasmine Daniel, an intern with the National Mall and Memorial Parks, tells The Washington Post (http://wapo.st/29C71RZ ) that it's a memorial "not a pool."

Others say there's nothing inappropriate about wading into the water. Eric Echevarria of Atlantic City says the pool is a place to "relax" and "cool off" after a long day.

Several signs along the edge of the pool tell visitors not to wade or throw coins into the water.
