Virginia Girl Scout leader faces child porn charges

A Virginia man is facing multiple felony charges, including child pornography and indecent liberties with a child.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office arrested 47-year-old Chad Miller on Thursday. They say he was a Girl Scout leader and family friend of the alleged victim, a 14-year-old girl. Detectives say Miller sent the victim a link to a pornographic website and made inappropriate contact with her.

After serving a search warrant at his home in December, authorities say they found several hundred pornographic images involving children on Miller's cell phones and computers. Miller is also a person of interest in a similar investigation in Fairfax County.

The Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia released a statement that says in part:

"... All volunteers who work directly with girls undergo a thorough and rigorous background screening process to determine a volunteer's eligibility.  In addition... girls are led by a minimum of two troop leaders at all times who are not related by birth or marriage to avoid situations that may put girls at risk.  We are committed to the continued safety of the girls within our movement ..."

Miller is out on bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned in April.

Detectives ask anyone with information in this case or any other potential victims to call the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office at (540) 582-7116.
