DC Police set up safety zones for commuters affected by Metro maintenance

- Commuters who usually take Metro but are out of a ride while the transit system's maintenance plan is put into place can feel safer catching a taxi or ride-share thanks to D.C. Police.

Authorities are setting up five safety zones across the city that will feature lighting, signs and added officer patrols. Commuters - who would typically take Metro trains - can use these areas to catch Uber, Lyft, taxi cabs, or other ride-shares.

The areas will be in operation from Wednesday to Sunday during the hours of 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.

The designated nightlife safety corridors will be located at the following locations:

H Street
1400 H Street, Northeast (in front of)

Chinatown
600 7th Street, Northwest (alongside Verizon Center)

DuPont Circle
1201 Connecticut Avenue, Northwest (Northbound)
1250 Connecticut Avenue, Northwest (Southbound)

U Street
1925 Vermont Avenue, Northwest (in front of)
2014 14th Street, Northwest (Southbound)

Adams Morgan
2200 Champlain Street, Northwest (in front of)

"The established nightlife safety zones are an additional resource for residents to ensure public safety, and we are working hard to provide special attention to these locations" said Assistant Chief Diane Groomes. "We hope that the community takes advantage of this security measure when accessing transportation and keep in mind their locations."
