Fire, broken pipe temporarily closes Wiehle-Reston East Metro station

The Wiehle-Reston East Metro station was temporarily closed after a fire underneath an out-of-service rail car.

Metro says firefighters responded to the station at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

There were no passengers on board the train.

During the incident, a pipe broke causing water to flow onto the platform.

Buses were requested to transport passengers between the Wiehle-Reston East and Spring Hill stations.

The Wiehle-Reston East station reopened just after 9:30 p.m. Metro says to expect residual delays.
