Selfie sticks banned at all Smithsonian museums

If you're visiting the Smithsonian museums, leave your selfie stick at home. The Smithsonian announced Tuesday they are banning the use of monopod selfie sticks inside their museums.

In a statement, the ban is a preventative measure to protect visitors and objects, especially during times when the museums are crowded.

"We encourage museum visitors to take selfies and share their experiences—and leave the selfie sticks in their bags," the statement reads.

Tripods and monopods were already banned in all Smithsonian museums. A few months back, several of the Smithsonian's affiliates banned the devices.
