The home invasion robbery happened February 16 in the 8800 block of Clewerwall Drive in Bethesda, Maryland.
According to a police news release, the couple was in the basement when they heard a loud crash. They went upstairs to find two men entering through a broken glass door.
One man was armed with a baseball bat and the other had a small, blunt object.
The suspects allegedly ordered the couple to sit on the couch, put their hands up and avoid looking at them. The couple says one of the suspects stated, "We are not going to hurt you. We respect you. It's just that the economy that sucks."
Police say the men got away with about $10,000 cash and rare silver coins from the home.
The investigation found that one of the suspects, Robert Hartley, worked for a company that installed a heating system for the couple, and had visited the home several times.The other suspect, Ioanis Gourgoulianos, allegedly visited the couple's home earlier in the day, posing as a salesman.
Detectives arrested Hartley and Gourgoulianos last week. Both have been charged with home invasion, first degree assault and theft. Police say Hartley has confessed.
Police are urging residents to keep valuables out of plain view and locked up when workers come into their home.
