Survey: Smartphones biggest productivity killer in the workplace

Employees being able to stay connected at work can be one of a company's biggest assets -- or one of its biggest drains.

According to a new study by CareerBuilder, employers say smartphones are the biggest productivity killers in their workplaces.

When asked, 1 in 5 employers think workers are productive less than five hours a day - and when looking for a culprit - more than half say that workers' mobile phones and their texting habits are to blame.

"While we need to be connected to devices for work," said Rosemary Haefner, chief human resources officer at CareerBuilder, "we're also a click away from alluring distractions from our personal lives like social media and various other apps."
