Man shot, killed in Alexandria; police searching for gunman

- Police are searching for the gunman who shot and killed a 28-year-old man in Alexandria.

Police said officers responded to the 1000 block of Montgomery Street at around 12:35 p.m. Wednesday and found Pierre Clark wounded in the upper body. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

There is no suspect information at this time. Officials believe the suspect fled the scene and has left the area.

Clark's death is the third homicide in Alexandria this year. He was gunned down in the neighborhood he grew up in near Old Town Alexandria.

"He was a good man," said a female friend of Clark's. "Everybody does their bad, but nobody deserves to die and my friend does not deserve to die."

"Retaliation," said Tiffany Burch, the victim's sister-in-law. "It was an ongoing circle of 'I get you, you get me.'"

Alexandria police officers remained on the scene on foot patrol into the night along with police cruisers standing by in the event some sort of possible retaliation happened.

"He didn't get killed by nobody he doesn't know," said Burch. "It's somebody he does know."

Family of the victim's children showed up to remember a man they said the community loved. But those paying their respects said this homicide could have been prevented.

Alexandria City Public Schools were on a lock-in for a brief period due to the police activity, but it was lifted at around 1:44 p.m., according to the school system's Twitter account.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective William Oakley of the Alexandria Police Department at 703-380-5019.
