Five things you need to know for your #FOX5SnowDay (!!!)

So (most of) you got your snow day. Now what are you going to do with it? First things first. This list of five things you should know for your snow day is a must-read mix of safety and fun—because who loves you like we do? Right. We thought so.

READ your five things to know for your (awesome) #fox5snowday:

1. STAY OFF THE ROADS.
Metrobus service=cancelled. Crashes on the Beltway? YES. Do we really need to break it down for you? The Federal Government AND most schools are closed for Tuesday—because the roads are a mess. So stay home. Unless you absolutely, positively have to go out urgently this morning—do not drive. Let the crews clear the roads so it's safer for everyone. Go back to bed (and duh, turn on FOX 5). Trust us, it's warmer there.

BTW, a Starbucks run does not qualify as an urgent reason to go out (not that we know anyone…)

2. IT'S A SNOW EMERGENCY!

No, really. D.C. declared a snow emergency for Tuesday, beginning at 7 a.m. Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes after 7 a.m. will be ticketed and TOWED. At $250 a pop, those tickets will really put a damper on your snow day… that's just the beginning. You'll shell out another $100 in towing fees, plus a $20 per day storage fee. Don't let it happen to you.

3.  HOPE YA LIKE COLD!
The snow will be gone (at least for now). But the cold? Yeah, no. It's going to get COLDER. FOX 5's Mike Thomas says as the storm wraps up, things will only get colder—and it's not going anywhere any time soon. So get out those 347 pairs of socks you prepped just for the occasion, and grab your scarf/hat/long underwear/snow boots/electric blanket/big furry dog to lay across your feet at night. You're gonna need it.

4. IF YOU'RE GONNA SHOVEL, SHOVEL RIGHT.
Do you know how to shovel??? Lucky for you, neither did we—but Kevin and Julie got a lesson on FOX 5 News Morning (translation; HILARIOUS).  Check out the video above-- although we must say we've never heard of this "hug technique."

Here are a few important points to keep you safe:
- Avoid using your back muscles
- Bend your knees
- Keep your back straight and lift with your legs
- Try not twist your body
- Don't let Tucker do it

(And speaking of our morning show—you're watching it on your snow day—right? We're having a HUGE Empire party on Good Day at 10a—and the stars are here! Tweet us #GoodDayDC. We promise fun.)

5. SNOWBALLFIGHTERS— YOU'RE UP AT 11 AM.
This might be the most important (read: entertaining) thing on the list. At 11 a.m., it's going down. And by it—we mean the snowballs. The Washington, D.C. Snowball Fight Association has waited a LONG TIME (because a year is a really long time to us) for this one. They'll be going at it in their snowball fighting tradition, but important note: THERE'S A LOCATION CHANGE. Because the National Park Service did such a great job plowing Dupont Circle, the snowball fight has been moved to Meridian Hill Park (still 11 a.m.).

f history is any indication—well, you don't want to miss it. We're even sacrificing FOX 5 Sports' own Brody Logan for this one. He does many things, but we've never seen him try snowball fighting. Should. Be. EPIC.

Get him, guys. Highlights at 6.
