Northern Va. woman dies after being stunned by deputies

ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) -- A 37-year-old woman has died after deputies used a Taser stun gun on her while she was in custody.

The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office says Natasha McKenna of Alexandria was taken off life support Sunday. An investigation is underway.

The sheriff's office says McKenna was in the process of being transported from the Fairfax County jail to the Alexandria city jail Tuesday when deputies say she failed to comply with their commands and resisted them. Deputies used a Taser to restrain her.

Soon after, the sheriff's office says McKenna began experiencing a medical emergency. They say deputies and medics began life-saving measures before McKenna was taken to a hospital and put on life support.

McKenna had been jailed since Jan. 26 on a charge of assault on a police officer.
