Starting Tuesday at 7 p.m., Capital Bikeshare members will only be able to rent a bike from any given station ONE TIME until the software upgrade is completed 16 to 24 hours later. The disruption should end sometime between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
Websites and apps that show Capital Bikeshare users how many bikes and docks are available at any given station also won't be working during the upgrade. If you're searching for a bike at a station during that time, it'll be all about luck.
If you're not a member (in other words, if you use a credit card to rent a bike each time), you won't be able to rent a bike at all until the system is restored. Capital Bikeshare says they stopped kiosk membership sales for three-day passes on Saturday, and all 24-membership sales stopped Monday night. All of this is temporary, of course, until the upgrade is complete.
Follow their twitter account @bikeshare for updates throughout the process.
