2nd mistrial declared in ex-FBI agent's murder trial

A second mistrial has been declared in the case of a former FBI agent charged in the shooting death of his wife.

The media is reporting that a Stafford County jury was unable to decide whether Arthur B. Gonzales was legally justified when he killed Julie Serna Gonzales. Circuit Judge Sarah Deneke declared a mistrial Friday after jurors sent her a third note saying they were hopelessly deadlocked.

Gonzales' first trial also resulted in a hung jury last March.

The 43-year-old Gonzales was charged with second-degree murder and using a firearm in a felony. He claims his 42-year-old wife attacked him with a knife, and he shot her four times in self-defense.

Prosecutors claimed Gonzales staged the crime scene.
