Police pursuit ends outside Capitol during State of the Union address

A police chase ended near the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday night-- while at the same time, President Barack Obama was giving his State of the Union address inside.

FOX News reports there was police activity at Washington Avenue SW and Delaware Avenue SW, near the Rayburn House Office Building. It was apparently the result of a police pursuit started in Prince George's County, and ended in the shadow of the Capitol building.

Police say the chase stemmed from an armed robbery, and officers from District Heights, Md. were following a suspect. U.S. Capitol Police put out a priority call on the radio while the President was inside speaking.

According to FOX News, the car that was being pursued almost hit one of the barricades that pas protecting the Capitol campus on the lower part of Capitol Hill, near the Rayburn building.

The scene was clear before 11 p.m. No additional details were immediately released.
