Cold weather challenges

People all across the region are facing cold weather challenges, whether braving the elements, fighting fires or struggling to keep the heat on at home.

One Capital Heights lady is so desperate to keep warm in her home while dealing with heater issues that she used her oven to heat her house and dressed in layers to fight the chilly weather.

Property managers say they are waiting on a part to come in, promising to have it fixed by Monday.

Meantime they've provided her with small heaters to help fight the cold.

In Boulevard Heights, firefighters faced cold weather challenges while fighting a house fire in the 38-hundred block of Clark Street.

Water from the hoses freezes up creating ice.

Also firefighters can't change out of wet gear in freezing temperatures so a bus is provided on every call so they can change in a warm place.
