Md. man charged with attempted murder after dump truck rams into police cruisers

A violent attack on two Maryland police officers ended with the officers safe and the suspect locked up.

It happened Wednesday around lunchtime in a Glenarden shopping center and the whole thing was caught on camera.

The Prince George's County officers were not on duty. They were approached by a man who was "ranting and raving." He accused them of hurting his brother. The officers had not interacted with his brother.

The man eventually got back into the dump truck he was driving and plowed into the two police cruisers. The officers narrowly avoided injury.

He then approached them on foot. The officers were able to make a peaceful arrest of 31-year-old Gene Brandon of Aquasco, Md.

Police say he has a history of mental illness and was not taking his medicine.

He is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault.

No one was injured.

"I can't speak highly enough of these officers," said Chief Mark Magaw. "Both have less than two years on and both showed a tremendous amount of courage and restraint."
