Suspect rams car into Police Cruiser

A suspect is in custody after a domestic-related incident where the man purposely rammed a stolen vehicle into a Loudoun County deputy in a Sheriff's Office cruiser. As the suspect began to drive towards the deputy a second time, the deputy discharged a round at the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody unharmed.

A Sheriff's Deputy was initially called to a residence in the area of Newlin Mill Road near Unison shortly before 11AM Saturday for a domestic-related argument. The suspect, who was no longer at the residence upon the arrival of the deputy, was advised to not return to the home or he would be trespassed.

Around 2:20PM, the suspect returned to the home, forced entry into the residence, assaulted the female and took the keys to her vehicle. A deputy in the area came into contact with the suspect driving the vehicle. A chase was initiated and the suspect turned onto Rugby Court in the Town of Purcellville. The suspect drove around the cul-de-sac, lost control of his vehicle causing damage to two tires, and then rammed the vehicle into the deputy in the patrol car. The suspect continued to rev the engine and backed up the vehicle. The deputy exited the patrol car, and the suspect began to drive towards the deputy a second time when the deputy discharged one round into the suspect's car. The suspect was not struck by the round and no one was injured as a result of the incident.

The 20 year old suspect, Jake Digeronimo was taken into custody without further incident and was charged with abduction, robbery, burglary, assault on a law enforcement officer, assault, auto theft and eluding.

The deputy, whose name is not being released at this time, has been placed on routine paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation.

Digeronimo remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

The Town of Purcellville Police Department and the Virginia State Police assisted with the case.
