11 people displaced after partial condo building collapse in DC

Nearly a dozen people are without homes this weekend after D.C. Fire and EMS officials say heavy rains likely led a condo building's basement to partially collapse.

Officials condemned five units in the Fairfax Village Condos in the 3800 block of V Street Southeast. About 3 a.m. Saturday, firefighters began getting calls about the partial collapse

Large holes are left in several spots in the building's basement, where bricks caved in.

Fire officials say the Red Cross is assisting the families displaced and has found them temporary housing.

No one was injured during the building collapse.

It is unclear who is responsible for paying for the repairs or whether or not they will be covered by insurance. No one will be able to live in the impacted units until the D.C. building inspector can reinspect the building after repairs are made.
