Missing Boston Terrier stolen from car in DC reunited with family

A missing Boston Terrier stolen from a car in Northwest D.C. has been located.

The 4-month-old puppy named Maggie was inside of a parked vehicle near 9th and K Streets at around 2 p.m. Tuesday when the car was broken into. The thief grabbed the dog carrier Maggie was in.

"She is the sweetest most adorable dog you've ever met," said Michael Steel describing his Boston Terrier.

Maggie's parents said she was ill when she was taken and needed medication. A $10,000 reward was offered for her safe return.

"We had a group of friends out last night looking, just hoping she was in a alley or even a dumpster or a trash can, that someone had dropped her," said Steel.

On Wednesday, Rashida Smith, a D.C. high school student, found the dog in her carrier nearby the Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro station, but her tag had been taken off. She contacted the owners and the dog has been reunited with them. The student did receive the reward from the family for finding Maggie.

In response to the outrage some have shown on social media, Steel said that Maggie was left in the car for only 40 minutes while he ran errands.
