1 dead, 1 injured in ultralight plane crash in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Authorities in Puerto Rico say one person has died and another was injured when their ultralight plane crashed off the island's western coast.

Police said Friday that co-pilot Ricardo Torres from Mayaguez died shortly after the aircraft went down in the water just offshore from the popular tourist town of Rincon. They said pilot Antonio Zapata helped Torres reach the shore but that the 35-year-old man died shortly after.

The accident happened on Wednesday. Officials said the men had taken off from a small airport in Mayaguez.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
