Man shot dead by masked men in Waldorf

Two masked men with guns attacked people inside a Waldorf home, and the suspects are still at large.

Just after 4.a.m. Tuesday, Charles County authorities said two masked suspects went inside the Terrace Drive home, demanded money and shot a 34-year-old man multiple times. The victim has been identified as Michael Keith Beers.

"This was not a random attack. This was a house that was targeted. The people inside were targeted. And we're working on determining a motive," said Diane Richardson of the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

The masked men also "roughed up" a second man who was inside the home, according to authorities, but he escaped through a window.

Meanwhile, one of two women inside the home ran away.

"I think they saw what was going on and did the best they could to escape the violence," Richardson said.

The second woman in the house was not injured and stayed on the scene.

Investigators were at the crime scene until midday Tuesday and towed away a Mercedes from the driveway. A broken side window was boarded up Tuesday afternoon.

The owner of the house was inside with the renters, but she did not want to talk to FOX 5's Emily Miller.

There were four homicides in all of Charles County last year, but Tuesday's homicide was the second this year, which the sheriff's office said is "extremely unusual."
