What would 'Blaine' and 'Kurt ' be doing now? Darren Criss talks 'Glee;' new show 'Broadway Today'

- Darren Criss is best known for his character 'Blaine' from the hit show 'Glee' where he blew audiences away with his versions of popular hit ballads.

Since then, he's been a staple on Broadway - playing in hits like 'How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying' and 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch.'

Criss stopped by GoodDayDC Thursday while in town with the National Symphony Orchestra.

He’ll be performing a special show at the Kennedy Center called 'Broadway Today' – where he performs a series of Broadway favorites.

The show is a new experience for Criss who says it will be a mix of contemporary Broadway tunes plus songs the audience may not be so familiar with.

Steven Reineke, Principal Pop Conductor with the National Symphony Orchestra, said it will be exciting for the audience to hear the songs in a different way - out of context - and performed by one of the best groups in the country.

"It's really fun and exciting and new for you and me," Criss said to Reineke. "This is the kind of show I'd want to see because I just love all this music -- I'm so, so pumped for this!"

"I was part of something that was much bigger than myself," Criss said about his time on the FOX hit, Glee. Criss said he was proud of his time on the show.

So what would his character, 'Blaine,' and his character's spouse, 'Kurt ,' be doing now?

"Probably sleeping in, being a boring old married couple. But being happy!" he said. "That is the definition of being happy!"

Criss says theater is his first love. He's says bringing his voice and style to theater is always a challenge.

"Theater is always changing. People forget that pop music always ends up saving musical theater once way or another, whether we like it or not," he said. "With any classic art form - it does need a constant revitalization."

His favorite musical – Cabaret!

You can see Darren Criss LIVE at the Kennedy Center on February 26th at 8 p.m. and on February 27th at 8 p.m.
