WASHINGTON - One of D.C.'s fastest-- and funniest-- ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo returns to the Wharf this weekend. Trust us when we say, this isn't your average race.
A total of 128 Chihuahuas will hit the track for the 7th Annual Running of the Chihuahuas. After 16 heats of eight and the championship round, one lucky chihuahua will earn the title of the city's fastest Chihuahua. The winner also receives some bling in the form of a trophy from Friendship Heights Hospital for Animals, as well as a cash prize.
The event (1-5 pm) is free, and is both family and dog-friendly. Proceeds from the event go to Rural Dog Rescue, which takes dogs out of urban areas and brings them to heavily-populated areas to help them find their forever homes.
