WASHINGTON - Legendary Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh is gearing up for his nonprofit group’s first annual all-star charity concert aimed at supporting military families.
VetsAid, the organization started by Walsh about a year ago, raises money for veterans groups across the country.
The rocker is headlining the first annual VetsAid concert on Wednesday, September 20th at EagleBank Arena. In addition to Walsh, the concert will feature performances by the Zac Brown Band, Gary Clark Jr., and Keith Urban.
Walsh said he has been sympathetic to veterans and their causes since he was very young. He lost his father, who was a flight instructor stationed in Japan, back in 1949 when he was just 20-months old.
"I've always kind of felt right along with the families who lose a family member or dad doesn't come home," he said. "I’ve always done what I can. But I decided I should really take it up a notch."
Walsh said he’s taking a page out of Willie Nelson’s book as far charity concerts go and can only hope VetsAid does for veterans what Farm Aid has done for farmers.
Walsh said the support he received from fellow musicians was amazing. "The transition back to civilian life is almost too big of a mountain to climb for these guys."
