WASHINGTON - "What did I say? I said would make you guys proud," newly crowned Miss USA, Deshauna Barber, told us when she joined GoodDayDC Wednesday.
Deshauna said so many thoughts were running through her head just before her name was announced – so many, that she could hardly contain the excitement.
She said the only thing she could concentrate on was listening – and hoping - to hear the 'D' sound in the words District of Columbia.
"I tried to make sure that I kept telling myself no matter what happens, I'm so happy to have made it this far." But when they asked her a question about women in combat – she felt that her chances of winning jumped.
"I just want to say to everyone in D.C., thank you all so much for your support. I'm the third Miss District of Columbia in 65 years to bring the crown home and I'm just happy to represent that. The nation’s capital - the best!" she said to the people of her hometown. "I'm loving New York," she added, "But D.C. is where my heart is!"
The only drawback about being Miss USA ? Not enough time in the day to watch FOX 5 Morning News! “I miss you guys!” she said.
