Going 'nuts' for 'Rocky Mountain Oysters' at this week's 12th annual 'Testy Fest'

- Some would say you'd be 'nuts' to miss this Saturday’s '12th annual Testy Fest' in Arlington where authentic 'Rocky Mountain Oysters' will be served.

In fact – the gang from the Montana State Society, who are hosting the event, says you’re guaranteed to have a 'ball.'

Whether you call them 'Rocky Mountain Oysters,' 'Cowboy Caviar,' or 'Bull’s Eggs' – the fact is that bull testicles are a very popular dish that are eaten throughout the U.S.

Chef Frank McGraw joined us in-studio Friday to cook up a few ahead of the festival and said that the idea for the dish probably originated with old-time ranchers. "They didn’t want to waste anything," he said about the cattlemen who often castrated calves to control their growth and behavior.

McGraw, who is a Montana native, says he usually coats the main ingredients in flour and seasoning before deep-frying them. He serves them with a side of cocktail, ranch, or barbeque sauce. "They kind of have their own little taste," he said.

People weren’t exactly lining up in the studio to try the bovine delicacies – so FOX 5’s Holly Morris stepped up to the plate. She even got Tucker to come by and have a taste – dressed in bull suit and all! "No one is going to believe you actually have any unless you try it," Holly told Tucker.

Holly was on her third one when Tucker finally decided to have a bite. “They’re delicious,“ he said after putting one down – but the look on his face seemed to say otherwise.

“Alright, we're getting the ‘ball’ rolling!” said Jayne Visser, president of the Montana State Society.
