God, prayer, love define life of Father Bill Byrne

- Overall, his days are very inconsistent. But they always begin and end the same way – with prayer.

Father Bill Byrne, the jovial priest who joined FOX 5 during Pope Francis’ visit to D.C., let us follow him during a day full of work and worship.

"God is the center of all we do," he told us. "If we put him in there, everything else goes right."

But push God aside, Byrne said, and that’s where things get a little messed up.

His focus is on teaching the word of the church whether it be to folks in the community or to students in the classroom. "We make sure they're not just learning their math and how to be great writers – we make sure they'll be great people."

Father Byrne says another way he spreads the message of the church is by doing radio ads – an idea given to him by Cardinal Donald Wuerl.

"I love, love, love, being a priest. I loved it when I first was ordained, and I love it open more now," he told us after demonstrating his cooking skills by whipping up a low-fat dinner.

His life, he said, has always been about living and working with the people of God. "Where the rubber hits the road – the front line, if you will, of where Christ meets his people in love."
