WASHINGTON - The prom is just about a month away. You need a date. So what do you do?
If you're Sofia Arbeen - you ask a professional football player! And if you’re Redskins player Nick Sundberg - you say yes!
Sofia is a member of Dreams For Kids D.C. - a nonprofit that works to empower children with physical and developmental challenges.
Sofia and Nick meet a few years back at an event for kids where the two painted their faces together. She recently reached out to Nick on Twitter about attending the group's dance – and event that gives kids with disabilities the opportunity to experience a real prom night.
Nick, who said he had never been asked to the prom before, immediately said yes. "I love it," he told FOX 5’s Steve Chenevey, "this is what really makes it fun." The long-snapper said that this is his first Dreams For Kids D.C. prom and he is looking forward to it.
"For me it was an easy decision," he said about his prom night plans. "Any time you can help somebody in any way I think you got to take advantage - especially when the platform that we have. It's one of those things where if you don't, I think you're wasting your time. So I just try and get out much as I can and meet people like Sophia and just have as much fun as I can."
Sofia says the theme for the prom is, "Under The Seas" and she has already picked out a beautiful blue dress. Nick says his suit will match!
Sofia is definitely a Nick Sundberg fan. But is she a Redskins fan? "I’m a Bears and Redskins fan!" she told us. Nick is going to pretend he didn’t hear that first part.
