WASHINGTON - Add “all-you-can-eat $6.99 buffet” expert to Dame Helen Mirren’s resume.
“To this day, it is my favorite American food,” she said.
The Triple Crown of Acting recipient told FOX 5‘s Steve Chenevey Tuesday that she has enjoyed buffets while road tripping through the South with her husband, much like she did during the filming of her new project The Leisure Seeker.
The hours spent in an RV from Atlanta to the Florida Keys while shooting was the “real deal,” she said, with no heat, no A/C, little steering and “basically no brakes.”
But Mirren said the reason she really wanted to do the film, Italian director Paolo Virzi’s first in the English language, was the combination of seriousness and the absurdity and humor of human behavior portrayed in the film.
The Queen, though, has never ridden a jet-ski, despite her on-stage appearance as its spokesmodel at Sunday’s 90th Annual Academy Awards ceremony.
“They kind of annoy me…I want peace and quiet,” she said.
The Leisure Seeker opens March 9.
