WASHINGTON - Do you remember when Cal Ripken Jr. broke Lou Gehrig's mark by playing his 2,131st consecutive game? Well, that was September 6, 1995 -- almost 20 years ago!
The baseball icon joined Good Day DC Thursday morning to talk about the milestone and much more.
The Baltimore Orioles plan to celebrate the 20th anniversary of that moment in sports history on September 1 by having Ripken throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
Later in September, Ripken will be back in D.C. for a very special fundraiser.
He will team up with actor Kevin Spacey for an event called "Under The Lights," which will be held September 28 at the Mead Center for American Theater.
Proceeds will help kids in underserved communities.
