WASHINGTON - You know that too much time in front of the TV or computer screen can be bad for your eyes. But it can also be harmful to your skin.
Board Certified Dermatologist, Dr. Lily Talakoub, says that extended exposure to the blue light rays that are being emitted from the screens of your devices could lead to serious skin damage.
Talakoub said skin melanogenesis, skin hyperpigmentation and other disorders could arise from extended exposure to close-range blue lights.
Talakoub says settings on the iPhone allow users to turn down the brightness levels of the screen. Amazon devices feature a ‘blue shade’ tool that reduces the amount of blue light rays that can reach your eyes and skin. "This is like sunglasses for your tablet," she said.
What else can you do? Wear sunscreens containing antioxidants and iron oxide -- even indoors. Also changing your proximity to your devices and keeping them at arm’s length can help decrease exposure.
