WASHINGTON - When Doug Craig wanted to raise awareness about muscular dystrophy, he put the pedal to the metal and took a road trip!
Doug was first diagnosed with the form of dystrophy known as Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD) when he was a teenager. But he wasn’t alone, an estimated 780,000 other people also have this form of muscular dystrophy.
To make the trip, he enlisted his 3-year-old dog Gracie. Doug said he and Gracie are constant companions and love to take long trips together. He also said Gracie isn’t fazed easily by loud noises frequently encountered on the road.
Doug said they left New York City on a course plotted with Google Maps and used the biking option find the quickest and safest path.
They made it to Washington D.C. and are now getting the word out that more research is needed to conquer this condition.
