FOX's search for next 'Empire' artist stops in DC

The search for Empire's next star rolled into D.C. this week-- in the form of a gold bus with a recording studio inside. Singing hopefuls from around the area lined up for their chance at a "sing-on" spot on the hit FOX show, and even our own Tony Perkins gave it a shot.

Over the course of two days, hundreds of people lined up and waited-- some for hours-- for their chance to perform a song from the show. The Empire bus made stops at Howard University on Tuesday, and outside the Verizon Center in Chinatown on Wednesday. After the 15-city tour is over, one lucky winner will be featured as a new Empire artist during Season Two!

FOX 5's Allison Seymour, Shawn Yancy, Wisdom Martin and Tony Perkins spent some time meeting the singers who lined up to audition-- and Tony even decided to take a turn at the mic. The video is posted above-- but you'll be relieved to know, he's keeping his evening job instead.

Empire Season Two premieres Wednesday, September 23 at 9 p.m. on FOX 5.
