Halloween has always been a special day for our own Kevin McCarthy, but this year, he upped the ante—by popping the question! Kevin proposed to his long-time girlfriend, film critic Lauren Veneziani, on Halloween night at Walt Disney World, and the video is simply precious.
Kevin and Lauren made the trip to Florida to celebrate Halloween at Disney, and attend Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Up until the proposal, Kevin wrote on Facebook, Lauren thought they were just waiting in line to meet their favorite characters from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” But Kevin had a very special surprise planned.
The video, which Kevin shared on his Facebook page, starts as Kevin and Lauren were meeting Jack and Sally, and then they all posed for a picture. When the photo was over, Kevin got down on one knee and Lauren’s face says it all (right after she asked if he was kidding).
Kevin says for his proposal, he used lines from some of he and Lauren's favorite films - 'Love Actually,' 'Notting Hill,' 'Jerry McGuire,' 'When Harry Met Sally,' and 'The Nightmare Before Christmas.' He was so nervous, he said, that he forgot to include a line from his all-time number one film, 'True Romance.'
Kevin says he and Lauren met after her father saw one of his movie reviews on FOX 5. Her dad suggested she reach out to him, since she is a movie reviewer herself. 4-years later, Kevin popped the question after he said he spent months planning the proposal in secret.

SHE SAID YES!!!!!(10/31/15 - Prior to this moment, Lauren thought we were just waiting in line to meet our favorite characters from "The Nightmare Before Christmas." We were standing in a crowd with over one hundred people waiting to meet the characters! Ever since we've been together, we've had Jack and Sally elements all over our apartment. We are completely obsessed with that flick and those characters. Halloween has always meant so much to us as a couple. I was beyond nervous! I handed my phone to the character attendant and asked him to please record a video of us taking a photo with the characters.Note to the character attendant: You are an amazing cinematographer!! Thanks for recording this video of the greatest day of my life!)Posted by Kevin McCarthy FOX on Sunday, November 1, 2015
"It was the best day of my life!" Kevin told us Monday when he and Lauren joined us to talk about the big day. He said he had a lot of help from Lauren's mom and dad - especially when it came to picking out the perfect ring.
Lauren said she had no idea what Kevin was up to when he got down on one knee. She thinks about 100 to 150 people were in line with them and witnessed the proposal.
The FOX 5 morning crew toasted the happy couple, surprised Lauren with flowers, and even celebrated with a special engagement cake.
Congratulations, Kevin and Lauren, from your FOX 5 family! Here are some of the pictures we took to share their special moment!
