Foo Fighters to kick off opening night for DC's new music venue, The Anthem

- D.C.’s new $60 million concert venue set to open later this year at The Wharf on the Southwest Waterfront will have a huge headliner for opening night – the Foo Fighters.

I.M.P. Productions, the company that owns the legendary 9:30 Club in the District, announced Monday that The Anthem, a 2,500 to 6,000-seat capacity venue, will open on Oct. 12.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who grew up in Northern Virginia, has toured the site of The Anthem.

“It has the illusion of a stadium, but the intimacy of a nightclub,” Grohl told Billboard. “It's perfect.”

Concertgoers heading to The Anthem will be able to enjoy the venue's seven bars, a full-service kitchen, retractable chandeliers, a nice view of the Potomac River and unobstructed sight lines to the stage, according to Billboard.

Tickets for the Foo Fighters’ grand opening performance at The Anthem will go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. Tickets will cost between $100 to $175.
