Season of Wishes: 5-year-old girl meets Cinderella, will visit Disney World

WASHINGTON - FOX 5 Cares is the name of our campaign to highlight the work of charitable organizations and non-profits in our community. Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is one of the groups we are working with to spread awareness. We are partnering with them for their Season of Wishes campaign.

This week, we met 5-year old Ellie Greene. She had her wish come true as she got to meet a princess.

The Tony Award-winning Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella is now playing at the National Theater in Washington D.C. and Greene got to have a meet-and-greet with Cinderella before one of the shows.

It's all part of the Make-A-Wish program.

"We're super excited," said Ellie's mother, Alissa. "This is something we've never done before and just the experience to get our kids watching it too - it's really fun."

Ellie has overcome a lot in her life at her young age.

"She was born with end-stage renal disease and she started dialysis when she was eight days old," said Alissa. "When she was two, she got her kidney transplant.

"We've had a lot of ups and downs through it, but it's all been worth it. We've been blessed."

This fairytale meeting was just the beginning for Ellie and her family. They will head to Disney World for a couple of weeks.

"We're going to remember it forever and then give her the memories of it too as she gets older and remind her of that," said Ellie's mother. "Make-A-Wish is awesome and we couldn't thank them enough."

These wishes and trip can be very expensive and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic is asking you to consider donating to their Season of Wishes campaign at midatlantic-seasonofwishes.org.

They can use money as well as air miles to make these wishes come true. There are more than 600 kids in the D.C. area who are waiting on a wish right now.
