Light the Night 2017: Event schedule

Attending one of this year’s Light the Night events? We can’t wait to see you! Here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect on the night of the walk.

This year’s DC-area walks will be held on the following dates:

October 13: Northern Virginia – Reston Town Center (Reston, Va.) – REGISTER or DONATE TO A PARTICIPANT

October 14: Montgomery County – Rockville Town Square (Rockville, Md.) - REGISTER or DONATE TO A PARTICIPANT

October 21: D.C.  – The National Mall (Washington, D.C.) - REGISTER or DONATE

5 – 6:40 pm – Light the Night Celebration

Team Captains: check-in upon arrival to collect your team’s Champions for Cures wristbands

Enjoy live music!

Visit the merchandise table & load up on Light The Night gear

Games & entertainment (Rock climbing wall, carnival games, balloon artist, face painter & more)

Help yourself to snacks & refreshments at the Champions for Cures food tent

Visit the mission tent

6:40 pm -  Light The Night Program 

Begins at the main stage!

7 pm - Walk Begins

Walks are 1.5-2.5 miles long, and done at a casual pace

9 pm -  Event Closes

Visit one of our partner locations after the walk!

What time does the walk start?

Festivities will start at 5 P.M. and the walk will begin at 7 P.M.

How do I check in and pick up my team’s wristbands?

Team Captains should check in for your entire team at the Check-in Tent. Captains will be given wristbands for qualifying Champion for Cures, and Bright Light materials. Teams with tents or tables will not need to check in and can proceed directly to their tents or tables. Please instruct team members to go straight to your meeting spot when they arrive at the walk.

Where should my team meet?

As the team captain, that’s up to you! Please pick and communicate a meeting place in advance of the walks. If your team has earned a table or tent, please tell your team to meet there. Corporate teams earn a tent at $15,000 raised and a table at $10,000 raised.  Friends & Family teams earn a tent at $10,000 raised and a table at $5,000 raised.

Does everyone get a t-shirt and lantern?

T-shirts and lanterns are given to all Champions for Cures, walkers who raise $100 or more. This does include children! Everyone who plans on walking with you should register to your team in advance, and that will give them the opportunity to fundraise in advance of the walk. Our average walker raises $350, so you’ll be amazed at how quickly you’ll reach and surpass $100!  (All cancer patients and survivors are considered Champions for Cures regardless of fundraising levels.)

Can I make a donation or turn in funds at the walk?

YES!  We accept MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover, cash and personal checks.  Checks should be made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or (LLS) with your name in the memo line. All donations and funds can be turned in at the Check-in Tent.

What happens if it rains? 

We walk rain or shine. If we do get a little “liquid sunshine,” just bring an umbrella and your puddle jumpers! Follow us on Twitter @LightTheNightDC for live updates throughout the weekend.

How long is the walk?

The walk route ranges between 1.5 to 2.5 miles depending on location. The walk is done at a casual pace.
