National Baby Safety Month: 5 products to keep your baby safe at home

September is National Baby Safety Month, and when it comes to your child’s safety, you can never be too careful.

These five items will help reduce the chance of an injury or accident, and they’ll help put your mind at ease:

1. Baby safety locks
Cabinets, drawers, and appliances can all be tempting to a child’s curious mind. Keep your child out of harm’s way by locking down handles and other latches.

2. Corner cushions
Watching your child crawl and walk are just two of the joys of parenting, but sharp corners on your furniture could easily be a hazard while they’re moving around. Being stuck by or against an object was one of the leading causes of injuries to young children, so make sure that if they run into furniture, they won’t be badly hurt.

3. Self-closing outlet covers
Kids and outlets are one of the most worrisome combinations for any parent. Instead of having to constantly monitor your child near an outlet, you can opt for an outlet cover that closes the instant after a power cord is removed.

4. Baby gate
According to a 2008 report by the CDC, injuries due to falls were the leading cause of nonfatal injuries in children. Putting a gate up will help make sure that your child cannot and will not take a tumble down your staircase.

5. Anti-tip straps
Big-screen TVs are in just about every family’s home, but you don’t want your baby going near one when you’re not looking—sometimes, even just a little pressure can tip one over. Lock down your TV to keep it in place.
